Evolution of Satellites

In the infancies of space exploration and satellites, there were few companies which produced satellites.  There was not enough demand to warrant more competitors.  After all, there were not many uses for satellites and the chief buyer of them was NASA.  However, it was not long before people began to realize the potential for these machines.  Looking back, the developments in satellite technology have been very impressive.  Satellites are used in areas such as telecommunications, weather reports, and scientific exploration.  As the uses for satellites increased, so did the demand for them and not just for government space programs.  The private sector also became interested in acquiring satellites.  Private companies have risen to meet this demand.  Some, such as Hughes Space and Communications Company make a variety of satellites for different uses.
