How they work

The following are a list of typical viruses:

  • Worm virus: a program which replicates and spreads through the computer but not through a network and does not need a host program to exist

  • Trojan Horse: non-replicating virus that looks and acts like useful software but contains a virus subroutine

  • MS Macro: uses MS Word macros to program viruses (Word macro virus update / Word macro virus catch and clean)

  • Java virus : New virus possibility on the wed. It uses the fact that Java programs are automatically downloaded and run, in order to infect your machine. (Care of Prof. Watson)
