There are many ways of getting around goverment control of the V-Chip rating system.
There are many products available today such as the Lock Box or SuperVision which do the same thing the V-Chip does without the threat of the Government.
Television networks have the option of using Parental Advisories before or even during programs to warn parents of possible TV hazards. In addition the networks can put these advisories in copies of TV Guide or the local newspaper listings.
The easiest option is just turning the TV off. It is easy and free, and it's probably better for your kids anyway. Claire Ebel, director of the New Hampshire Civil LIberties Union, said she marvels at the need for electronics wizardry. "We have the ability to turn the TV off. We do at my house."
