Satellites are used to transfer information through microwaves over farther distances. Satellites orbit approximately 22,000 miles above the earth's surface. Satellites are a means of redirecting straight microwaves from only satellite dish to another. Satellites located all over the world and has the ability to transfer vast amounts of data to almost anywhere in the world. The International Satellite Consortium, a worldwide communications system, recently announced that they intended to launch 840 new satellites, making it possible to link approximately 95% of the world. Microwaves are the most efficient form of information transfer, however, because satellites are located above the earth's atmosphere, bad weather can sometimes interfere with the flow of information.
