Hierarchical/Hybrid Network

In this type of network, several computers are connected to a central host computer, usually a mainframe system. The central computer or mainframe is connected to minicomputers and those are connected to microcomputers. The network is a centralized information network much like the star configuration. The hierarchical network configuration, also called the hybrid network, allows the connecting components to share databases, processing power, and output devices. Hierarchical networks are most often used in centralized organizations, where different departments are all linked to a mainframe system.
