Parallel and Series Combinations

Our goal in this class is to become familiar with the different types of circuit configurations that are encountered in electronic circuits. The main objective is to develop some intuition about circuit behavior, sufficient for understanding the operation of transistor switches and appreciation of the design of common digital circuits.

We begin with the simplest possible circuit involving a resistor and a battery. What is the current I which flows through the resistor and battery in the following circuit?
