Quote of the Day

The ampere is "... that constant current which, if maintained in two straight parallel conductors of infinite length, of negligible cross-section, and placed one meter apart in vacuum, would produce between these conductors a force equal to 2 x 10-7 newtons per meter of length." (1946)

Adapted from the "The International System of Units (SI)," National Bureau of Standards Publication 330, 1972 ed. as reported by HRW on page A1.
