4. Examinations and Homework.
There will be two in-semester one-hour exams, and a two-hour final exam in finals week. The one-hour exams are tentatively set for the dates shown on the schedule below.
The final exam is on Friday, December 17th, 2004 from 10.30 am - 12.30 pm. The exam is the classroom 109 Sharp Lab.
The first one-hour exam will be on material from the first 7 chapters of the textbook. The second one-hour exam will be on material from the first 12 chapters of the book, but with greater emphasis on the material in chapters 8 - 12. The final exam will be comprehensive. Examinations will be closed book, i.e. memory aids, class notes, textbooks, etc., are not allowed.
Homework consists of two parts: assigned reading and assigned problems. A tentative lecture/reading schedule is shown below. It will be assumed that the student has done the necessary reading before the lecture. The homework is due at 3.30 p.m. on the date shown on the schedule. Homework must be placed in my mail box in 223 SHL.Partial credit will be given for homework and exam solutions, provided the logical steps of the solution can be identified. It is not sufficient to provide a correct answer (many of these are in the book) without providing a correct sequence of steps to reach the answer.
5. Make-up Exams
Make-up exams will only be given in the case of an excused absence as defined by the University. If you know of a conflict ahead of time, you must let me know in advance that you will be absent. If you experience an illness, accident or life event, you must notify me at the earliest possible time.
6. Academic Dishonesty
You are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the University's Policy on Academic Dishonesty, which is in the Official Student Handbook. This policy applies to this course.
7. Requirements of LISTENERS
Students taking the class as listeners are required to attend 75% of classes and to hand in, on the due date, honest attempts at 9 or more of the homeworks. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in a grade of LW (listener withdrawn).
