HOBBIES
My hobbies are bicycling, photography, our dog, collecting Brittney Spears concert memorabilia, volleyball, and landscape design. Below are a few photographs I have taken. I hope you enjoy this small gallery.
- Forest Snow
- High Sierra Mountainscape
- Rainbow Falls, Mammoth Mountain, CA
- Winter Sunrise Long Island, NY
- Hot Air Balloon Races
With respect to bicycling, due to time constraints my bicycling usually turns into a morning commute ride on my bicycle. Bicycling to work saves a tremendous amount of money and time as well as being better for our environment. The cost of using a bicycle is about 6 cents a mile and the bicycle is as fast as a car for trips under 4 miles. The cost of using my car is at least 42 cents a mile including the fee and hassle of parking the car.
After many years of renting basement apartments, I finally bought a house. I thought buying a new house would make my life easier. The logic went like this...new house = warrantee = no hidden problems = I am free from working on the home. Well here is a picture of the new house . Now, guess if you can what is wrong with the picture. The answer...THERE IS NO YARD. So, my new hobby is gardening. The house is within a few miles of the University of Delaware (where I work). For my first home improvement trick, not knowing any better, I thought I would put in a patio. Perhaps a glimpse of this many month project squeezed into the odd weekend is worth a thousand words (in process partial patio picture ). Wisdom gained - home improvement projects scale with the gross project weight and area. With a new house you pretty much get the whole enchilada of yard home improvement and landscaping. Actually things are starting to really improve and here are a few pictures of a more civilized home (north dry creek , front entry bed). Spring is so anticipated after a long cold winter. It lifts your spirits just to see the plants come back from dormancy. here are a few pictures in the spring. The heathers come out first in Jan and Feb, then the white forsythia Feb to March, followed by the Yoshino Cherry in late March, April is a big month with the Donald Wyman and Indian Summer crabapples, the maple blossoms including my favorite half moon japanese maple, and the Eastern Redbud, primroses, and bleeding hearts. Now the color has come back as the garden is revived...
BOULDER
Colorado is special since every weekend can be spent hiking and enjoying wonderful "mountaintop" experiences. Coming down to everyday life in Delaware (elevation 40 feet) led to yearning for times filled with nature, a lack of materialism, and the smiles of others happily hiking with their dogs. Not having the faith to move the mountains to Delaware, at least having a dog helped connect to these happy experiences - enter stage right a rust red male German Pinscher puppy to take on walks. His name is Boulder, here are a few pictures: puppy Boulder, teen Boulder.
The lasers in the lab generate basically two frequencies, 1000Hz and 10Hz. This can become somewhat, well, predictable after a few years. Internet radio and MP3 have solved this problem in our lab. My favorite artist are Hawk Nelson, One Republic, Avril Lavigne, The All-American Rejects, Switchfoot, Sugarcult, Rhianna, Pink (why I am not sure), Angels and Airwaves (!!!), and .
