PHYS208 Fundamentals of Physics II
(based on a project assessment rubric developed by Ron Wenger, UD Mathematical Sciences)
These criteria represent two categories of emphasis: the quality of the physical thinking and the care and skill with which you communicate that thinking.
Exemplary Work: (4-5 pts)
- A full, accurate, and physically convincing solution is provided for the project,
containing essentially no mistakes.
- Addresses many of the real-world issues that can be raised regarding the project.
- Demonstrates full understanding of the physical concepts
(PHYS208 and 207) used to complete the project.
- Makes appropriate use of diagrams, computational tools,
and additional resources to help complete and present the project.
- Contains a complete response in the form of a clearly written explanation
with supporting calculations and design parameters.
- 5 pts -- This project is a world-class contender -- the pumpkin will fly!
I would be willing to invest $1000 of my own money as a stake in the venture.
Good Work: (3 pts)
- One or more relatively minor conceptual or design errors is present.
- Some of the calculations or design parameters are flawed.
- Design is less fully documented.
- The pumpkin might possibly be tossed far enough to break it.
Satisfactory Work: (2 pts)
- Same criteria as Good Work, but with more flaws and less complete development
and presentation of design.
- The pumpkin may budge slightly.
Below Expectation: (1 pt)
- Serious flaws or complete lack of thoroughness in the development of the design.
Teams:
- No more than 5 members on a team unless prior approval is obtained.
- If the team has been reconstituted from the assigned recitation group,
a justification of each member’s participation and contribution must be included.
