The Hall Effect
- Determines sign of charge carriers responsible for electric current
- Demonstrates that electron is charge carrier in typical metal
- n-type semiconductor has negative charge carrier (electron);
p-type semiconductor has postive charge carrier (missing electron or hole)
- Can be used to measure concentration of charge carriers
- Depends on doping levels in semiconductors
- Can be used to measure magnetic fields (as in PHYS208 lab)
