PHYS208 Fundamentals of Physics II
CD-Physics Errata
Version 2.0 of CD-Physics has several errors; I will try to keep track of them here.
Please feel free to point them out to me as you find additional errors.
Exercises and Hints
- Ch. 33, 80P:
In parts b) and c) the sign of the pi/2 term should be reversed in each expression
for the instantaneous voltage shown.
Thanks to Michael Cardullo for reporting this.
Interactive LearningWare
- Ch. 22, 10P:
0.7 N is quoted once as the correct answer instead of 0.17 N.
0.046 N is quoted once as the correct answer instead of -0.046 N,
even though +0.046 N is not accepted as a correct answer!
- Ch. 23, 32P:
On the final frame of this module, the numerical answer will be found from 4kq/pi r2;
they seem to display 2, then 4 and confuse Q with 2q?. Also, entry of 50 (cm) is required by
the program for r rather than the SI quantity 0.5 (m).
- Ch. 23, 34P:
One of the formulas for dQ is missing the infinitesimal element dx.
- Ch. 28, 43P:
The program requires that the incorrect sign be reported for the final term
in the second application of the loop rule.
The correct equation is then displayed properly in the next frame of the presentation.
- Ch. 29, 26P:
This tutorial crashes near the entry point on my computer!
- Ch. 29, 56P:
From the ambiguity in the sketch of the current loop,
it is unclear in which direction the current is flowing.
- Ch. 30, 38P:
Not a critical error, but first you are queried about the directions of each of the four force components acting on the loop,
then you are asked to work out in detail the direction of the force on the wire segment nearest the long wire.
