Condensed Matter Seminar Abstract

Date: April 1st (215 Conference Room Sharp Lab at 2:00pm)

Speaker: Shobo Bhattacharya

Title: Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India

Abstract:
Recent developments in scanning probe techniques allow us to “see” the extent of ordering in condensed matter ground states such as ferroelectrics, ferromagnets,, multiferroics and superconductors in the presence of quenched disorder. Imaging studies in the mesoscopic scale that captures the extent of order parameter correlations in these mettastable and generically glassy ground states will be described and their usefulness in potential applications such as for non-volatile memory will be described.
