Working in Antarctica – A personal Perspective

Leonard Shulman B.S. EE , PE
Department of Physics and Astronomy
University of Delaware
Len Shulman at South Pole

Antarctica is the highest, driest, windiest, and coldest continent on the earth. It is also a continent set aside by international treaty as a scientific workshop for all disciplines. During my 25 years with the Bartol Research Institute, I have visited the Antarctic 17 times in support of scientific research programs. I will discuss characteristics of the earth’s south polar continent, survival considerations, personal experiences, and Antarctica’s importance to science including an overview of several projects.
